Suggested reading: Rob Lowe Biography

I just read a cool article in Vanity Fair - June issue - on Rob Lowe. Actually, it was a piece from his newly released autobiography called Stories I only tell my frieds: An Autobiography, where he tells a little bit about the first important role he got (in the movie The Outsiders), along with other actors who would also become super-present on the big-screen as Tom Cruise, Ralph Macchio, Patrick Swayze, Emilio Estevez, Matt Dillon among others.
For those who, like me, love biographies (other suggestions here), this may be a good option. With a 20+ years career, the actor has gone through a lot and has a lot to tell us...

Amazon has all the versions available including digital for Kindle.

Cleopatra: A Life

I just read the biography Cleopatra: A Life, by Stacy Schiff, and I suggest it for those who want to know more about this great strategist and warrior.
Based on historical documents, the author attempts to separate the fiction from what really happened and, unlike other biographies I've read that focused more on the beauty of Cleopatra and her sex appeal, this one gives more importance to her political life, her power, government and love.

It deserves a spot on the bedside table for sure!

Rock n' Roll Biographies

If you, like me, is passionate about biographies - rock stars' bios! - so get ready: besides Keith Richard's bio Life, launched late last year, and Steven Tyler's Does the Noise in My Head Bother You?, launched in May this year, this October (with pre-sales already available) will hit American shelves It is so Easy: and Other Lies, by Duff McKagan, bassist and founding member of the amazing band Guns n 'Roses. Besides talking about GN'R great times, he talks a lot about alcoholism, sobriety, life after GN'R, Velvet Revolver and more.
I read a detailed review about it and, for me, the book is already a must!

My Father's Daughter Cookbook

Gwyneth Paltrow is the "it" girl again for quite some time now. Multi-media, a few months ago she released a cookbook called My Father's Daughter. She's promoting heavily the book here in the US and I went to Williams & Sonoma to take a look at it (and to my surprise, I ended up bumping into her at the store!). Backed by big names in the American cuisine, the book has different types of recipes: from simple with basic ingredients to a little more elaborate to organic and vegetarian. Anyway, it is a beutiful book with amazing photos and delicious recipes!

Maxim's

For those who like Paris or have seen the movie Midnight in Paris recently, a good tip is to get the coffee table book of the famous French restaurant Maxim's that's available for pre-sale on-line. Besides telling the story of the restaurant and many beautiful photos, the book has also classic recipes! (very soon I will talk more about this incredible publisher Assouline!)

I am Ozzy

Last year Ozzy Osbourne launched his biography and I am Ozzy was a huge success! I had a great time reading it and I recommend. The book is written in first person, funny, full of bad words, and lots of rock and roll. I mean, a true portrait of Ozzy Osbourne! It's so entertaining that you will finish it in a few days!

The Beauty Detox Solution

Today is Monday, also known as cleaning/dieting day. So it is worth mentioning the "it" diet here in the U.S.: the Glowing Green Smoothie developed by celebrity nutritionist, personal chef and yoga instructor Kimberly Snyder. According to her, clients who's drunk the juice regularly started experiencing visible skin improvement in just few days.
This March she released a book called The Beauty Detox Solution on diet, health and beauty. For her, proper nutrition has the power to leave the skin brighter; hair and nails stronger; increase energy and get the body you desire. The recipe and other tips can be found on the nutritionist's website.

Taschen

For coffee table books and limited editions' lovers, good news: from tomorrow until Sunday the book shop and publisher Taschen will have its warehouse sale with discounts up to 75%. I am a loyal customer and I can guarantee that you will find something interesting at a good price or even pay the suggested price for autographed and limited editions like the hot (and very expensive) Linda McCartney: Life in Photographs.
If you do not have a Taschen near you, it is worth checking out their website and maybe get something online. If not, including this book store in your next trip might be a good idea!
